Catchable Fish In Greater Eureka Springs
(Eureka Springs, AR) — This quaint little Arkansas Ozarks destination village boasts several “water holes” that are known for a good selection of finny creatures. Places like Beaver and Table Rock lakes; White, Kings and Buffalo rivers; and urban “ponds” such as Black Bass Lake and Lake Leatherwood can offer the angler lotsa fun and (hopefully) lotsa fish!
White River (below Beaver Dam) – Rainbow, Brown, and Cutthroat trout; and Walleye. Record-breaking fish have been caught in the tailwaters below the dam whether you are wading or are in a boat.
Beaver Lake – Trophy-sized Stripers, and Hybrids (a cross between White Bass and Stripers); White, Smallmouth, and Largemouth Bass; Perch (both Brown and Bluegill); Catfish (both Channel and Spoonbill); and Walleye, Crappie, Redear Sunfish. Warmouth, and Bream. Several well-respected, knowledgeable fishing guides are available in the area.
Lake Leatherwood – This lake, that sits in the middle of one of America’s largest city parks, is home to Bluegill, Crappie, Largemouth Bass, and Channel Catfish. The park provides a paved boat ramp and a handicap accessible kayak and canoe launch.
Black Bass Lake – This historic “urban” lake exists behind the earthen and cut stone dam that was built in 1894. Once used for fire protection and drinking water , the lake is now popular for “wilderness” fishing from the banks along the hiking trails than encircle the reservoir, or you can put in at the non-motorized boat launch. Although anglers have landed Smallmouth, Largemouth and Spotted Bass, many prefer fishing for Bluegill.
White River (between Eureka Springs and Gateway) – In this stretch of the river it is best known for its trout fishing. This leg of this tributary is excellent for Trout fishing since it is stocked with both Rainbows and Brownies.
Kings River – One of only five north-flowing rivers in the continental U.S. has proven to be a good spot to hook a Rock Bass, a large Channel “Cat”, and/or a surprisingly “big” Smallmouth Bass. Area guides, canoes, shuttle service, supplies, etc. are available at several locations.
Table Rock Lake – Also formed by the White River, it is one of the top Bass fishing lakes in America. Bass who call Table Rock home include Largemouth, Smallmouth, Kentucky Spotted, and White. Other fish include Crappie, large Bluegill, and Catfish.
Roaring River State Park (Missouri) – This “just over the state line” park contains one of the premier trout fisheries in the nation, and it is stocked each night. Frequent visitors offer one word of advice, “Think trophy fish!”
