While it may seem like summer has just begun, it is not too early to start planning your 4th of July festivities. This year the holiday falls on a Tuesday, so make it a long weekend and take Monday off so you can join the party down in Eureka Springs.
The celebration starts on July 2nd with fireworks at Lake Leatherwood park. Concessions will be available and the park will be open all day, so get there early to enjoy all the park offerings (hiking, swimming, picnic grounds, playground, etc.) Fireworks begin at dark.
Free shuttles will run to the park beginning at 3 PM from transit office, Planer Hill parking lot, and the community center. Check out the Facebook event for more details.
After the firework show, enjoy your Monday off and explore the town. Hang out by the lake, visit the tigers at Turpentine Creek, take a bike ride on the newest trails, or float down the river…the list goes on. On Tuesday July 4th, catch the Parade at 10 AM make its way through the historic downtown with events following in the Basin Spring Park. You’ll even have a chance to meet Ms. Apple Pie Queen and Mr. Firecracker! Contests will be held for the following: apple pie, watermelon seed spitting, hula hooping and hot dog eating.
For the best outdoor seats to watch all the downtown activities, head upstairs to the Balcony Bar and Restaurant in the 1905 Basin Park Hotel.
